The single most important decision on a Kashmir trip is when you go. The month changes everything.

01Srinagar
Arrive Srinagar · Shikara + Houseboat
Arrive SXR. Transfer to houseboat on Dal Lake or Nigeen Lake. Afternoon shikara ride to Char Chinar and floating vegetable market. Overnight houseboat.
02Gulmarg
Day trip / stay Gulmarg · Gondola
Drive up to Gulmarg (2 hours). Gondola Phase 1 (Kongdoori) or Phase 2 (Apharwat Peak, 3,979m). Snow activities in winter, meadow walks in summer.
03Pahalgam
Srinagar → Pahalgam via saffron fields
Drive to Pahalgam (3 hours). Pampore saffron fields stop, Awantipora ruins, Anantnag apple orchards. Check in Pahalgam. Free evening.
04Pahalgam
Aru + Betaab + Chandanwari
Aru Valley pony/jeep, Betaab Valley (yes, that Bollywood film), Chandanwari — the Amarnath Yatra base camp.
05Sonmarg
Pahalgam → Sonmarg → Srinagar
Drive to Sonmarg (open Apr-Oct). Thajiwas Glacier pony ride. Return to Srinagar. Mughal Gardens if time permits: Nishat, Shalimar, Chashme Shahi.
06Depart
Depart Srinagar
Old city Srinagar quick tour (Jamia Masjid, Hazratbal Shrine, Shankaracharya). Transfer to airport.

Kashmir tips from Qutbi consultants
- Book gondola tickets in advance via the JKCCC website — queues at counter can be 3+ hours in peak.
- Pahalgam local taxi is a union monopoly — the transfer taxi cannot take you to Aru/Betaab. Budget for this.
- Winter clothing — Nov to March needs proper snow jackets. We rent them for the trip if you don't own any.
- Avoid Amarnath Yatra dates for pure holiday — Pahalgam gets crowded.
- Book 45+ days in advance for May-June peak.
- Dodhpathri / Yousmarg are lesser-known alternatives to overcrowded Gulmarg — ask us.
- Muslim travellers — Kashmir is Muslim-majority; halal food is default and prayer spaces are everywhere.

Is Kashmir safe for tourists?
Yes — tourism operates normally in Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonmarg. We monitor advisories daily and inform clients of any changes.
Best month for snow in Kashmir?
Late December to mid-February for Gulmarg. October-November for first snow lovers. March for winter still visible with pleasant days.
Houseboat or hotel in Srinagar?
At least one night on a houseboat — it is the Kashmir memory people talk about. Combine with hotel nights for hot showers and modern amenities.
Can seniors do Kashmir?
Yes — everything is doable at road level. Pony rides optional. We arrange oxygen support at Gulmarg for pre-existing conditions.
Kashmir + Ladakh combo?
Yes — 10N/11D combined tour via Zoji La (open June-October). We handle inner-line permits and altitude briefing.
